The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu, has approved the release and commuttal order of four inmates in the Correctional Centres in the state.
In a statement signed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, he explained that the release of one inmate, and the commuttal order for three other inmates were approved by Governor Sanwo-olu based on the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.
In the Statement, Onigbanjo revealed that the Lagos State Governor had given approval for the release of One(1) convicted inmate, a commuttal of the death sentence of two (2) inmates to life imprisonment and the commuttal of the life imprisonment of one (1) inmate to eighteen (18) years imprisonment.
According to Mr. Onigbanjo, the signed documents of approval by Gov Sanwo-olu have been presented to Correctional Centres in the State for immediate processing.
It would be recalled that Gov. Sanwo-olu had inaugurated the eight-member State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, headed by Dr. Abayomi Finnih in December 2019 and had in year 2020, approved the release of 265 inmates in Correctional Centres in Lagos State
