NWAMKPA MODESTUS (KSM)
Let me emphatically remind everybody that Governor Hope Uzodimma did not fly from the air and suddenly became Governor. He is not strange in the politics and political gerrymandering in the state. Governor Uzodimma is one man everybody in Imo knows as a very peaceful and peace loving leader and this he has demonstrated over the years through his actions, conducts and comments when necessary. He is not alien in the affairs of the state both politically, socially and even religiously. He has never, at least not to my knowledge as a political follower in the state, disturbed any previous government in this state the way his predecessors are currently doing nor instigated crisis secretly or openly with the view to destabilizing any government. He has carried himself honorably and has never ever been identified with untoward development in whatever shape or colour in Imo state in the past.
I know why I am laying this background because we must understand the man called Hope Uzodimma as against all the attempts by some opposition elements and enemies of the state to besmirch his integrity, attack his personality, paint him black and dress him in a borrowed rope. There is this truism that one cannot learn the use of left hand in his/her old age. In order words, Governor Uzodimma’s peaceful disposition which was a reflection of his family upbringing and orientation cannot suddenly change because he is Governor and nobody can twist the obvious or throw dust into the eyes of the public against him. In fact, anybody trying to malign him or give him a name that is not his in order to gain cheap political point will certainly receive the wrath of God.
Sadly, in this part of the world, once somebody finds himself in power, he starts to receive unwarranted attacks, false blackmail, devilish propaganda, unnecessary insults and foolish abuses from people, majority of whom, ironically are the real perpetrators of what they accuse others of. This is very unfortunate as it is despicable.
I do not understand how somebody in his right senses could allege that Governor Uzodimma authorized the military to kill people in Imo State. Also, it does not add up why anybody could insinuate that the Governor is instigating crisis in any part of the state. How? Is it possible for one to ignite fire in his own house? As a person, has the Governor been known for that before in Imo?
The fact is that as Governor, he is the highest stakeholder in the state and he is like a father to all. The ultimate wish of every father is to see a peaceful family. However, it is the wish of Governor Uzodimma to see a developed, peaceful and united Imo state. And this, he is assiduously working to achieve. The problem in Imo state is that we have people who feel that since they are not in power, let the house collapse. These are people who place their selfish political interest above the collective peaceful coexistence of Imo people. They instigate crisis and sponsor attacks all in a bid to discredit the government and distract the Governor.
Let me again insist that Governor Uzodimma means well for the state and he is not in support of anything that could pollute the peaceful atmosphere of the state. Granted, security has been a serious issue in Nigeria and therefore all the efforts by the Governor is geared towards guaranteeing a peaceful state for the betterment of all. He is the man on the saddle and he understands the burden of leadership.
Since assumption of office, the Governor has continued to show signs of somebody who came to change the ugly narrative- a narrative of greed, none adherence to rule of law, disobedience to due process , promotion of corruption and mindless grabbing mentality. He has not betrayed that trust and expectation of the people. He has driven Imo state out of that ugly past. He cannot be labouring to develop Imo state and at the same time support things that will disrupt the peace of the state. He is indeed a very peaceful personality.
