Tragedy struck the Nzeji Family of Ngugo Community, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State following the gruesome murder of their father – Frank Nzeji and his USA based son, Obinna Lawrence Nzeji.
The duo was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen in military uniform while visiting a friend in Ogoni, Rivers State. The gunmen were said to have swooped on the victims on sighting them and shot them dead right inside the house of their host.
The driver of the victims, who incidentally was their kinsman, sustained multiple injuries in the gory incident, alerted the family through phone calls and later gave up the ghost.
However, a Good Samaritan quickly picked up the remains of the victims and deposited them in an undisclosed hospital in Aba, Abia State after reporting the matter at a Police station in Rivers State.
The corpses were later moved to the Imo State Specialist Hospital Mortuary, Umuguma, Owerri West Council Area.
According to Mrs. Felicia Hagood Nzeji, who resides in Greenville South Carolina, USA, her husband, Frank, lived at Ngugo while their son, Obinna, who was a staff of ZF Transmission, USA, came home to get married.
Mrs. Nzeji disclosed that it was the prospective wife who reported the killings to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Owerri.
She alleged that she and her other son, Ibeawuchi were arrested, interrogated and later released.
She also explained that the matter had been referred to the Homicide Unit ‘of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Police Command for further investigation.
When contacted on the issue, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Orlando Ikeokwu (SP), stated that he had not been briefed on the incident which took place outside the state.
He however, admitted that this was the second enquiry on the matter.
