A 16-year old habitual criminal, Abraham Kayode, who was caught inside a shop’s ceiling at night, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment without an option of fine for stealing.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, of the Ogba Magistrate Court, who found him guilty and sentened him accordingly.
The convict, Kayode, was arrested and charged before the Court after he was found inside the ceiling of the shop, which belonged to the victim, Chidi Edeh, located at Ipaja Road, Mulero Bus Stop, Dopemu area of Agege, Lagos.
He had climbed through the ceiling but was caught by the security men on duty and was forced to come out. He was then apprehended and charged before the Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of the State.
However, he pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, then presented the facts of the matter and told the Court that the defendant was a habitual criminal and asked the Court to sentence him accordingly to serve as deterrent to others who might want to commit such crimes in future.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, found him guilty as charged and consequently sentenced him to two years imprisonment without an option of fine.
The convict was remanded in custody at the juvenile section of the correctional centre, where he will serve his prison term because of his age as a minor.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the convict was a known habitual criminal, who had committed many crimes in the past before he was caught inside the ceiling and arrested by the Police.
