The gallant firemen of Anambra State Fire Service on Friday 14th October, 2022, contained a heavy fire that emanated from a fallen petrol tanker at Amansea axis of Enugu/Onitsha Expressway, Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra State.
According to the Fire Chief/Director Anambra State Fire Service, Engr. Agbili Martin Agility, the distress call came in at about 11.15am and he immediately deployed and led fire truck and firefighters to the incident scene. They were able to neutralize and extinguish the heavy fire easily with application of chemical foam compound via the fire truck.
The Fire Chief said that due to heavy rainfall that morning, the petrol tanker hooked on a sagged high-tension wire and there was a spark that caused the fire outbreak. The tanker driver was able to escape with the tanker head as the tanker fell and the fire escalated.
He concluded that even though the fire incident destroyed about three (3) buses and also affected part of the cattle market shops, there was no lost of life and the firemen saved lots of people’s properties including numerous houses, shops, businesses, vehicles and lots of other properties around the incident scene.
