Facts have emerged on how gunmen laid siege at a Police Station, shot three Police officers on duty dead, injured others, burnt some properties at the Station and escaped in Delta State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the Nsukwa Divisional Police Station in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.
The attack, which was said to have started at about 2am, left some officers dead and wounded, put the residents into palpable fear as they were jolted from sleep by the sound of sporadic gunshots by the gunmen, who laid siege at the station.
According to Police sources, there were four Policemen on guard; they shot three Police officers dead, others inside station got injured and they set Police motorcycles at the premises ablaze, destroyed vehicles and carted away their ammunition.
The Acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Bright Edafe, who regretted the incident, said the deceased officers do not include the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) as earlier speculated.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ari Muhammed Ali, who also confirmed the attack, said the Command lost three officers.
CP Ali described it as a black day for the Command but vowed that the culprits would be brought to book. He said the investigation has already commenced and the Police are getting useful information.
Ali did not rule out the possibility of having collaborators from those who have been perpetrating similar attacks in the South-East.
“The modus operandi of this attack is very similar to what has been happening in the South-East. However, we will get to the root of this matter and bring the suspects to book,” he said.
