A 29-year old housewife, Queen and her husband, Promise Ndunofit, 32, have landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly setting their landlord’s house on fire while fighting over suspicion of husband’s adultery.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 16th July, 2023, at Modupe Street, Egbe Ikotun area of Lagos State, where they rented an apartment owned by the landlord, Samuel  Ogbonna.
They have been arrested and charged before the Court for conspiracy and arson under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.
The couple was said to have had a disagreement over the wife’s suspicion of adultery by the husband, which led to physical combat between the couple.
During the fight, the wife, Queen, was alleged to have taken petroleum substance and set the properties in their apartment ablaze. While their properties were burning, the fire spread to other apartments and damaged most part of the building, which eventually ended the fight.
However, before then both their house properties and the landlord’s building were damaged to the extent that they were unable to recover anything.
The matter was reported to the Area M Command, Idimu. They were then arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found the couple culpable and subsequently charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
They however, pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, granted the wife bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, while the husband was admitted on bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till 29th August, 2023, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
While they were being taken to the prison custody, the husband, Promise, told P.M.EXPRESS correspondent that it was his wife that caused the matter while the wife said it was a mistake and she never had such intention to burn down the house.
