A 27-year old notorious bandit, Tobi Oloye, arrested and charged before the Ejigbo
Magistrate Court in Lagos, has told the Chief Magistrate, Mr. A.S. Okubule,
that he was just released from prison custody two weeks ago before being brought
to the Court for another criminal offence.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Oloye, was arrested by Police operatives from
Ipaja Division led by the DPO, CSP Tokunbo Aboniwonda, after he burgled a
house, stole some items including a mobile phone and he was caught in the act.
The incident happened at Oke Odan Street, Majiyagbe area of Ipaje, Lagos, in
the early hours of the morning.
The suspect, Oloye, was said to have come to the area at night for surveillance
before he came back for the operation around 3am
On that day, he was said to have broken into the apartments of Joseph Shina and Modinat and stole before he was caught and handed over to the Police at Ipaja Division for investigation and he confessed during interrogation.
Having been found culpable, he was charged before the Court and he pleaded
guilty for burglary.
He
then informed the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Okubule, that he recently returned
from prison before he went to steal and was caught.
He said that he had returned the phone he stole to the owner after he was caught.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simon Ndue, asked the Court to give a date for him to
present the facts of the matter in order to enable the Court to sentence him
accordingly.
The Court then adjourned the matter till 14th October, 2020, for facts and
sentence while the defendant was remanded in prison custody till the date he
will be finally jailed.

As far as I am concerned this is indictment of the State.
Prison's are supposed to be a rehabilitation centre and the case of this burglar and many others the reverse is the case.
Most of this petty thieves are victims of misrule of the ruinous Ruling class in Nigeria
The urgency for System can't be over emphasised.
It may not be out of place to wish that Non governmental agencies start to fill this gap for the sake of the larger Society.
