Concerned Citizens of Ogbunike have expressed serious worry over alleged plans by the President General of the town union, OPU, Ogbuefi Tochukwu Obiakor (Akudinobi) to impose his preferred candidate on Ogbunike people in the forthcoming election for the Igwe Ogbunike.

In a statement by the group, they expressed grave concern following weighty allegations emanating from the Secretary General, Nnakwuzie Okonkwo.

“We, the Concerned Citizens of Ogbunike, wish to use this medium to express our dismay over the crack witnessed in the Ogbunike Progress Union. The track is open for all Ogbunike sons and daughters to see. It must be taken seriously following the weighty allegations from a highly placed official of the OPU.”

“It is of grave concern because the Secretary General, a respected Ogbunike son, has accused the President General of being compromised and to have hatched plans to impose a candidate on Ogbunike Community.”

“Ogbuefi Tochukwu Obiakor has been accused by the Secretary General of orchestrating all the issues and problems in Ogbunike. This is a heavy allegation and every son and daughter of Ogbunike should be worried.”

“We are equally worried that the President General, contrary to laid down procedures, has been fingered to have set up a kangaroo committee made up of individuals with whom they have been holding nocturnal meetings.”

“From the onset, the Concerned Citizens have expressed our confidence in having a free, fair and credible Igwe Ogbunike Election. But following these allegations against the President General, it is clear that some individuals are hell bent on manipulating the entire process and plunging Ogbunike into crises and breach of public peace.”

“We hereby restate that due process must be followed as contained in the Igwe Ogbunike Constitution 1978. We have resolved that we will resist any form of imposition of candidates. Individuals should equally not drag undue external interference into the Igwe Ogbunike Election.”

“We advise the traditional Council of Ndichie/Ogbuefi Ogbunike to ensure that the Igwe Ogbunike Constitution 1978 is followed strictly by all stakeholders in the election of the Igwe Ogbunike. We also pray that the brewing crisis in Ogbunike Progress Union, OPU, be put to a stop. Ogbunike deserves a peaceful transition, and no one should truncate the process of electing the people’s choice candidate as Igwe Ogbunike.”

“We, the Concerned Citizens, are advocating for a level playing ground for all the contestants. No one should be witch-hunted or sidelined in the scheme of things. Everyone should be carried along towards achieving free and fair election.”
