Indian Yadav Steals Show At Lagos Int’l Badminton Classics

The final of the third edition of Lagos International Badminton Classics was a spectacular show for Indian star Chittaboina Rahul Yadav as he was cynosure of all eyes in his display to win the men’s singles of the championship at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere Lagos at the weekend.

The Indian player defeated  fellow country man Karan Rajan in an explosive final match to emerge winner.

PM EXPRESS reports that the match started off with Rajan mounting the pressure on his opponent in the first five minutes of the game as Yadav later got the needed momentum to take the pressure back to his counterpart.  This positioned Yadav to win the two straight sets 21:15 and 21:13  in the men’s single final.

Earlier before the men’s singles final, Thilini Promodika Hindahewa of Sri Lanka had defeated India’s Mugdho Agrey in the women’s singles final in two sets 12:21 and 14:22, while Team India defeated Nigeria in the men’s double final match in two straight sets by 17:12 and 20:13, also Team Sri Lanka won the women’s double final match after seeing off India in the first set 21:13 and made it again 21:19 in a keenly contested second set.

The teams that participated in the Tournament are; Portugal, Togo, Ghana, Egypt, Sri Lanka , Jordan, India, Italy, Benin Republic, Uganda and host country Nigeria.

Winning teams in men and women singles, and doubles in third places got $650 each, while second placed teams got $1,000 each and winners got rewarded with $2400 each.
