The Chief Coach of Kedge Football Club of Badagry, Noah Omotunde has boasted that his team deserved to win the just concluded Samjason Super League.
Eight teams took part in the league sponsored and organized by Uchenna Eke, the chairman of Samjason Football Club of Igando.
The competition which was played recently at Egan Senior Grammar School saw Kedge FC defeated Samjason Football Club of Igando by a lone goal courtesy of a superb goal from Razak Abdulkareem in the 25th minute of the encounter.
Omotunde who was on cloud nine after the victory said the pulsating encounter was tough but thank goodness that his players were up to the task to win their opponents.
“We won the game through the hard way. My players worked hard to achieve this success because we were playing against physical team that enjoyed home support yet my players went ahead to shock them before their fans. It was a sweet victory because nobody gave us any chance when we started this tournament but we have proved the bookmakers wrong by winning the league against all odds,” he said.
In his own comment, Samjason Coach, Matthias Enebili blamed the team’s defeat on his goalkeeper, Yusuf Salawudeen who displayed unsportmanship behaviour to his players, coaching crew and officials during the game. He said Salawudeen who has been suspended from the club conceded a cheap goal which gave his opponents a deserved victory.
“We have lost the game not because our opponents players better than us but the keeper who misbehaved on the field of play which informed the centre referee to give him a marching order. Salawudeen would be in suspension indefinitely so that it would serve as deterrent to others in the club. I congratulate our opponents for the hard victory and organizers for the league which brought some players into the limelight,” he said.
The sponsor, Eke thanked God for the success of the tournament saying that the all the participating teams were invited based on their current performance in various competition.
Reacting to the action Samjson Keeper, Salawudeen who spat on the referee during the game, Eke said the keeper has been suspended from his club and had tendered unreserved apology to the officials who were in charge of the game.
The winners went home with a trophy and eight round leather balls, while the first runners up received four round leather balls as outstanding players went home with gift items.
