Award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has been named Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year at the just-concluded International Tourism Investment Summit in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The award was presented at the Governor’s Dinner and Tourism Awards Night, the closing event of the three-day summit held from July 22 to 24, 2025.

The event took place at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

The summit, tagged #ITSOyoState2025, brought together top players in tourism and hospitality including government officials, investors, developers and creatives to explore ways to boost Oyo’s tourism potential while preserving its culture and creating jobs.

As founder of KAP Film Village & Resort, one of the most prominent creative and tourism integrated film destinations in Nigeria, Afolayan has built an ecosystem that brings storytelling, heritage and tourism together.

For Afolayan and his team, the award is more than personal recognition. It affirms their vision of building a place that tells African stories and promotes culture with care and consistency.

“We’re truly grateful for this recognition,” the KAP management said. “It’s not just about one man’s dream. It’s about a team that continues to work with passion to build something lasting.”

They also thanked Governor Seyi Makinde; Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal; Akinwale Akinwole, Chairman of Oyo State Local Service Government Commission; Tola Akerele, CEO of the National Theatre; and the Ministry Art, Culture and the Creative Economy for their encouragement and support.

“This award is not the end,” the KAP management added. “It’s fuel to keep going, to keep dreaming, and to keep building something that makes Nigeria proud.”

Located in the quiet town of Igbojaye, Oyo State, the KAP Film Village & Resort has become a leading attraction for both tourists and creatives. It blends nature, film, and hospitality to create a space rooted in African identity.
