CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 26-year old nursing mother, Mrs. Adetola Adelani was drugged in Lagos, after her lady friend lured her to a hotel, handed her to suspected kidnappers who debased and kept her in captivity for two week after duping her of some amount of money.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the victim resided at Mosalewa Street in Surulure but the incident happened in a hotel at Ikota area of Lagos.
Recounting her ordeal, Mrs. Adelani said that she left home on that fateful day to buy some litres of petrol. On her way, she received a phone call from her friend identified as Jackie who asked her to come to City Spice Hotel in Ikota to meet with her.
She narrated that when she met Jackie there, she introduced one Ahmed Olaoluwa to her. Jackie then collected a white powdered substance suspected to be cocaine from Olaoluwa, gave to her to sniff and convinced her that it was good for her.
She said that by the time she sniffed the powder, she became weak and unconscious. Olaoluwa and another suspect, Ahmed Hafeez, who later joined them led her to UBA ATM point at Ikota and she withdrew N126,000 from her husband’s account. She said that she was kept in the hotel for the whole day before they moved her to another hotel called Mirage in the same Ikota area.
Mrs. Adelani said that from the new hotel, they led her to the ATM point to withdraw another money but when they got there the owner of the account had blocked the account and they were unable to withdraw any money on that day. She was detained for two weeks with the hope that the prohibition placed on the account would be lifted so that they would withdrew more money until she was released.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that after her release, the matter was reported to the Anti-cultism and kidnapping section of the police who trailed and arrested the suspects, Olaoluwa and Hafeez.
The suspects were paraded by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal at the Command, Lagos.
The police boss used their parade to advise the members of the public to be wary of old friends who they had lost contact with and just met as they may have changed and would not be as they were before as was the case with Adelani.
The CP said that the police moved into action after one Mrs. Abiola Afobiti reported that the victim who was her daughter left home to buy fuel, did not return home and efforts to reach her proved abortive. The mother suspected that the victim might have been kidnapped because unauthorized withdrawal was made from her son’s account because the victim was in possession of the husband’s ATM card.
Edgal said that the suspects will soon be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
