The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) and the Lagos State Infrastructure Management Agency (LASIAMA) have flagged off the upgrade of 20 designated Primary Health Care Centres across the State.
The Permanent Secretary of LSPHCB, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, in his address at the ceremony, said the upgrade which had already been done in three Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) in Mende, Akoka and Abule-Nla, is being extended to 20 other PHCs located in the five divisions of the State.
Mustafa, represented by Pharm. Shakirat Adeosun at the flag-off ceremony, explained that the upgrade of 20 PHCs across the State would fulfil the Governor’s promise of infrastructure upgrade of health facilities as conceptualised in the T.H.E.M.E.S development agenda of the State Government.
His words, “These upgrades would provide a conducive, comfortable and hospitable environment for both the health workers and the patients, as well as enhance the smooth delivery of healthcare service to the residents of the communities”.
The General Manager of LASIAMA, Mrs. Adenike Adekanbi, stated that LASIAMA, as a government agency, has been mandated to ensure that all infrastructure upgrades and construction are at par with global standards.
Adekanbi reiterated that the agency is involved in order to ensure that standards are not compromised, while also ensuring the fulfilment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s promises to all residents of the State. Each PHC upgrade is expected to be completed between three to six months after commencement.
The Local Government Chairmen where the 20 PHCs are scheduled for upgrading promised to support and cooperate with the State Government team as well as the contractors on the project.
They also pledged to ensure the evacuation of the operations of the affected PHC to a nearby one, if necessary, adding that the collaboration on the project between the various levels of government and among agencies is what good governance is about.
