Landlady In Trouble For Hiring Soldiers To Eject Tenant From Apartment

A 38-year old landlady, Mrs. Chinenye Ekene, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly hiring six soldiers to forcefully pack out her tenant’s property, stealing some of the items and damaging properties worth millions of Naira. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports the landlord, Mrs Ekene, has been arrested by Police operatives from the Isheri Oshun Division to provide the soldiers. And when she contacted them, they snubbed and left her to her fate.

 

The incident happened on 19th July, 2024, at Olamilekan Itunu Street in Isheri Oshun area of Lagos, where the suspect went with soldiers and threw out the tenant, Frederick Ikechukwu and members of the family from the apartment including their properties.

 

She was consequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public, stealing and malicious damage.

 

Some of the items the landlady allegedly stole included N500,000 cash, Infinix phone worth N230,000, gold necklace and watch worth N1m while the properties thrown out included TV sets, chairs, clothes, shoes, kitchen utensils and other items worth N1.850m belonging to the victim.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division and the landlady was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.

 

While being interrogated by the Police, she was asked to provide the soldiers,  but she claimed that they declined.

 

The Police found her culpable after thorough interrogation and consequently charged her before the Court for the alleged offence alleged offence.

 

However, she pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 13th August, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
