CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 54-year old landlady, Mrs. Feyisefan Salawu has landed in prison after she engaged suspected thugs to remove her female tenant’s roof, doors and windows over her inability to pay her house rent.
The incident happened at Ariori Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi area of Lagos where the tenant, Mrs. Patience Thomas resided.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the landlady and her tenant had disagreement and she asked her to move out of her house. However, the tenant asked to be given some time to raise money and look for another accommodation but the landlady insisted that she must leave.
Then to prove that she meant it, the landlady reportedly engaged some thugs who went to the tenant’s apartment, removed the doors, windows, climbed up and removed the roof but did not touch her property. When the tenant returned from work and saw what happened, she became furious, went to the police and reported the incident.
The police arrested the landlady and charged her before Ikeja Magistrates court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.
She pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A Akokhia granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 6 December, 2017.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that though the landlady was remanded in prison custody, she succeeded in ejecting the tenant.
It was learnt that the tenant was forced to move her property elsewhere after the incident.
