Following the sudden change of weather and preparations towards the yuletide celebration, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has advised Lagosians to exercise restraint in their activities to avoid any form of disasters during the final days of the outgoing year.
Speaking in his office at Alausa Secretariat, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu said that between November and March every year, due to a drop in humidity level, residents experience cold weather especially in the early hours of the day across the Country, while visibility is also affected due to the early morning haze.
Tiamiyu, therefore, advised motorists and other roads users to be cautious and conduct a proper inspection of their vehicles before embarking on any trip during the yuletide holidays.
The LASEMA Boss stressed that in order to avoid a spread of fire outbreaks characteristic of the dry season, residents should desist from storage of petroleum products and other inflammable materials, adding that all electrical appliances and candles should be put off when not in use.
While assuring the populace that the Government is alive to its responsibilities in entrenching safety of lives and property at all times, Tiamiyu advised Lagosians to be vigilant especially when in large gatherings such as religious programmes, carnivals, clubs, event centres and restaurants.
He urged everyone to monitor all the activities around them and report suspicious and unusual movements to security agencies through the toll-free emergency numbers, 112/767 which are open to all distress calls from any telecommunication network.
Tiamiyu assured that the Agency will continue its routine day and night patrols around the 3rd Mainland Bridge to Berger end of Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, Western Avenueto Lagos- Abeokuta Expressway, Ikorodu Axis, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Ikeja, Mile 2, Badagry Expressway and other strategic locations across the State.
According to the General Manager, the essence of the patrols is to tow off any broken down vehicles causing impediment on the roads to prevent unnecessary accidents, loss of man-hours and traffic jam.
He thanked the State government for the provision of adequate resources that has improved the response time of the Agency to over 80,000 calls relayed to the Call Centre on daily basis ranging from information on domestic violence, robbery, road accidents and fire outbreaks.
The General Manager assured that the operational bases of the Agency spread across the State, including the newly commissioned Fadeyi-Onipanu Dispatch Unit will continue to provide prompt response to any form of emergency in the State.
