LASTMA Partners With Civil Society Activists On Traffic Management

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by members of Civil Society Activists in Lagos to his office at LASTMA Headquarters at Oshodi.

Mr. Oreagba clarified that LASTMA was not established for revenue generation as insinuated by some sections of the public, adding that the Authority is primarily saddled with the onerous responsibility of controlling traffic and managing all related matters in Lagos State.

The General Manager maintained that all work ethics of the Authority, including operations, are being guarded and regulated by the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018 as amended.

His words, “Let me inform you that the creation of the Lagos State Mobile Court where traffic-related matters are decided, was to promote fair hearing, justice and equity concerning any infringement on the rights of any motorists”.

“We enjoined members of the public particularly motorists to make use of LASTMA hotlines (08100565860, 08129928503, 08129928597 and 08174722227) for any information or observation where necessary”, he appealed.

The General Manager, therefore, called on all Civil Society Activists to support the Agency in educating road users, particularly motorists to desist from driving against traffic (one-way) as this despicable act has caused the untimely death of some motoring public including innocent passersby.

While urging motorists to adhere strictly to all traffic regulations, Oreagba promised that all complaints sent via any of the LASTMA hotlines including social media handles (twitter-ekolastma, Instagram – @followlastma & Facebook- ekolastma), shall be thoroughly investigated without biases.

Earlier, the Coordinator of Civil Society Activists in Lagos, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, requested a mutual synergy between all relevant government agencies across the State.

Mr. Soloki said, “Civil Society Activists across the State would support the Authority in the area of public education and enlightenment on behavioural change of some recalcitrant motorists towards traffic managers on Lagos Roads”

He thanked the management of LASTMA for providing complaint channels where issues of concern could be reported for the prompt attention of the State Government.

Meanwhile, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba has revealed that two LASTMA officers (Mr. Ayinla Folorunsho and Mr. Fuwa Oladipupo) were recently honoured for their dedication to duties, especially in ensuring smooth control and management of vehicular and human traffic in their assigned areas.
