A 25-year old magician, Kpuigbara Baribefe, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly buying fake Dollars on the street.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect has been arrested and charged for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and buying fake Dollars.
The incident happened in November 2025 at Platinum Street, Lekki Phase 2. Lekki, Lagos.
The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended him while he was buying 30 pieces of fake Dollars and he was not able to explain what he wanted to use it for.
He was arrested and detained at the RRS office at Alausa, Ikeja, for interrogation and was found culpable after being interrogated by the operatives.
Thus, he was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, Kpuigbara Baribefe ‘m’ 25years, sometime in the month of November, 2025, at Platinum Street, Lekki Phase 2, Lagos, in the Lagos Magistrate District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 (1) (d) of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Kpuigbara Baribefe ‘m’ 25years, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did purchase 30 pieces of forged 100 Dollar currency notes and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 372 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
