A 20-year old man, Lawal Hammed, has landed in trouble in Ogun State after he allegedly lured his neighbour’s 11-year old girl inside the bathroom and had carnal knowledge of her.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Agbowa Road, Aiyepe Ijebu area of the Ogun State, where they reside.
The girl’s father reported the matter to the Police at Odogbolu Division and the suspect was promptly arrested and detained over his conduct.
The father of the victim told the Police that the suspect, Hammed, who resides at 5 ABA Quarters of Agbowa Road, was alleged to have wilfully and unlawfully had canal knowledge of his daughter inside his bathroom.
He further disclosed that the suspect has been harassing his daughter sexually for a long time, but he did not mention what steps he took to scare off the suspect before he was eventually caught.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect, who is currently undergoing interrogation over his alleged conduct.
SP Odutola stated that the victim has been taken to Odogbolu General Hospital for medical examination, emotional therapy and counselling.
The Police PRO, Odutola, explained that the suspect risks several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment for the alleged defilement under the Criminal Laws of the State.
“The Law of defilement in Nigeria is trite, Section 218 of the Criminal Code Act. The section states that any person, who has unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of minor, is guilty of felony and is liable to imprisonment for life. This is for the determination of the Court. As soon as investigation is concluded, the suspect, 20 years old Hammed, who is deemed to know the law by virtue of being above 18 years, will be charged to Court on the strength of material evidence from forensic examination.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has advised parents to embrace authoritative and supporting style of parenting skills, which at the long run will build obedience, discipline, and confidence in their children.
