Two Police officers attached to Isheri Oshun Division of the Lagos State Command, Inspector Fagbenro Elizabeth and Inspector Agbado Stanley, had a nasty experience while performing their lawful duty by controlling traffic on highway.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that some group of people allegedly mobilized and beat them mercilessly over an undisclosed matter, which caused them serious injury and were taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The incident happened at Ijegun bus stop, where the Officers went to perform their lawful duty before they were brutalized.
One of the suspects behind the attack, a 30-year old man, Mohammed Tuko, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly beating up two Police officers while performing their duty at the bus stop.
According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large conspired and conducted themselves in a manner that caused breach of public peace by beating up Inspector Elizabeth and Agbado Stanley in the process.
He was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Mohammed Tuko and others now at large on the 17/03/2025 at Ijegun Bus Stop in the Lagos State magisterial district, did conspire among yourselves to commit assault and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 412 of the criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”
COUNTII:”That you, Mohammed Tuko and others now at large on the same date, place and time at the aforementioned magisterial district, did conduct yourselves in a way and manner likely to cause breach of the peace by beating up one AP/NO 287956 INSPECTOR FAGBENRO ELIZABETH ‘F’, while on her official duty controlling the free flow of traffic, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168 (d) criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Mohammed Tuko and others now at large on the same date, place and time at the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one AP/NO 287956 INSPECTOR AGHADO STANLEY ‘M’ with fist blows, which caused him bodily injury on the face and neck, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 174 of the criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT IV:”That you, Mohammed Tuko and others now at large on the same date, place and time at the aforementioned magisterial district did threaten the life of one AP/NO 287956 INSPECTOR FAGBENRO ELIZABETH ‘F’, with violence, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 56 (1) of the criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 14th April, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
