A 30-year old man, Iroko Sewanu, has landed in trouble for allegedly giving deadly information to the Police  that armed robbers attacked him at gunpoint and robbed his property but it turned out to be false.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect,  Sewanu, has been arrested and charged over his alleged conduct.
The incident happened at Oke-Odo Division. The suspect went to the Police and reported that he was attacked at gunpoint and his Infinix HOT 60 pro plus Android phone and cash of N300,000:00 was stolen and the sum of N800,000:00 withdrawn from his bank account, with the intent to mislead the Police and link his rival to the robbery.
The Police moved into action and eventually discovered that his intention was to mislead the Police, because he knew the said information to be false.
After interrogation, he was found culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for giving the Police false information, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, Iroko Sewanu ‘M’ on the 27th day of November, 2025 at Oke-Odo Police Station, Lagos State, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, knowingly gave false information to the Police that you were robbed at gunpoint and your Infinix HOT 60 pro plus Android phone and cash of Three Hundred Thousand Naira Only (N300,000:00) stolen and the sum of Eight Hundred Thousand Naira Only (N800,000:00) withdrawn from your account, with the intent to mislead the Police, whereas you knew the said information to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 96 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Iroko Sewanu ‘M’ on the said date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District with intent to pervert the course of justice, made a false complaint to the Police alleging that you were robbed, thereby misleading law enforcement authority and causing wrongful investigation and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 97 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
