Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested a 34-year old man, Philip Mark, after he was allegedly caught engaging his neighbour’s 8-year old girl in sex, defiling her in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Olaiya Street, Ajangbadi area of Lagos, where they reside.
Police alleged the suspect to have come from work at about 2pm when the the parents of the girl had gone to work, lured her into his apartment and defiled her.
However, after the dastardly act, the girl revealed what happened to her parents and the matter was reported to the Police in the area. The Police operatives then arrested Mark and later transferred him to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation.
After interrogation at the Gender Section, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
But the Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Victor Eruada, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M. O.Tanimola, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP while the defendant will be in custody pending the outcome of DPP’s report, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
