The University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Oyo State, was temporarily thrown into darkness after a 39-year old man, Sakiru Abass, allegedly vandalized their cables, which supplied power to the institution and escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 29th April, 2024, at the UCH premises in Ibadan despite the fact that there were security guards on duty to monitor the institution.
The alleged theft was reported to the Police, who moved into action and eventually arrested the suspect, Abass and detained him for interrogation.
And having been found culpable after thorough interrogation, he was consequently charged before the Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ibadan, over alleged stealing of cables worth N400, 000 at the UCH, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The Prosecutor, Mr. Philip Amusan, told the Court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence by stealing the electricity cables without the consent of the hospital.
He said the defendant committed an offence contrary to Section 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Court’s President, Mrs. Moji Aworemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400, 000 and one reliable surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 23rd May, 2024, for hearing while the defendant was remanded in correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
