Man, 42, Arraigned For Swindling Lady Of N1m With Non-Existing Accommodation

A 42-year old man, Monday Amosu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a lady, Eze Faith, to the tune of N1m under the false pretence of securing an accommodation for her, which turned out to be a scam.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 5th March, 2026, at Omiyale in Ejigbo area of Lagos.
Mr. Amosu asked for the sum of money under the pretence of giving her a room and parlour self contained accommodation. However, after the complainant paid him the money, he bolted away, disconnected every communication he had with her and did not give her the accommodation as he had promised.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ejigbo Division. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct against the complainant.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for obtaining under false pretence and stealing under the Criminal Law of the State.
The charges read:
“That you, Monday Amosu’m’ on the 5th day of March, 2026, at about 1100hrs, at Omiyale, Ejigbo, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did obtain the sum of one Million Naira (N1,000,000) from one Eze Faith ‘F, under the pretence of giving her a room and parlour self contained accommodation knowing same representation to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the Crinunal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Monday Amosu, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal the sum of one Million Naira (N1,000,000) belonging to one Eze Faith and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Miss F.R. Ogunkoyede, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood, tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 8th May, 2026, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
