Man, 42, Caught Sleeping With Neighbour’s Girl, 8

A 42-year old man, Seydou Garuba, has been arrested after he was allegedly caught having sex with his neighbour’s 8-year old daughter in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Moshalashi Street opposite Barracks, Ojo area of Lagos where they reside.

According to Police sources, the suspect, Garuba, lured the victim into his apartment and engaged her in sex before the information leaked and he was caught in the act.
Subsequently, he was handed over to the Police in the area for interrogation.

The Police transferred him to the Gender Section of the Command for further investigation and he reportedly admitted that he molested the girl.
He was found culpable and later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement which attracts life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.

The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Bisi Ogunleye, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s report and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to DPP for advice.

The matter was adjourned till 8th December, 2020 for the report of DPP’s advice to be available.
The case may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends his trial for defilement over jurisdiction.
