P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 31st May, 2022, at Megida Bus Stop, Ayobo area of Lagos, where she was locked up inside the car by the owner, Olawole Olakunle.
Inspector Florence was said to have suffered her fate when she accosted the captor, Mr. Olakunle, on the highway for contravening an undisclosed traffic law and entered into his car in order to take him to the station for prosecution.
However, Olakunle insisted that he did not commit any traffic offence and asked her to disembark from his car but she refused insisting she was performing her duty.
He then locked the central lock of the doors to the car and drove off. Initially, she thought he was driving to the Police Station as she had requested but he continued driving to an unknown destination before she was said to have started begging Olakunle. After several hours, he later released her.
The matter was reported to the DPO, who moved other officers into action and Olakunle was traced and later arrested. He was then detained at the station for interrogation over his conduct.
During interrogation, the Police discovered that Olakunle deliberately detained Florence Okhiku inside his car in order to punish her for accosting him and he was found culpable. He was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and illegal detention.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, DSP Clara Olagbayi, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty before the Court to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. H.B.Mogagi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
The Court adjourned the matter till 16th June, 2022, for mention while the defendant was remanded in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
