About 50 members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have renounced their membership to join the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ward 7 of Odo-Otin North LCDA of the state ahead of the July 16 governorship election.

The defectors attributed their decision to the performance of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in the last three-and-a-half years across different sectors.

While receiving the defectors, the Chairman of the APC in Odo-Otin said the defection was another pointer to the fact that the party and its candidate are on a victory lap in the forthcoming gubernatorial poll.

He said the defection came as no surprise and that more new members were still expected, because the incumbent governor has proved that good governance is possible even in a difficult economy.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, described the defection as a testament to Governor Oyetola’s achievements so far.

“It’s great to see more people joining the Oyetola progress train based on the development they have witnessed and benefitted from. They have seen that this government is about development, it is about changing the fortunes of the people and of the state.

“This will only translate into more votes and more people identifying with what is going on. This is now a movement that is about what everybody wants, which is the continuation of good governance.

It is no longer safe for anybody in Osun and in Nigeria to sit on the fence. This is about our future, the future of our children and of generations unborn. I will want to encourage every citizen to be part of the decision making that decide what happens to them. Part of that decision is to come into a party that is progressive and support a leader that is making developments happen in an unprecedented manner”, Egbemode said.

Chief Samuel Bolatito, speaking on behalf of the new decampees noted that their decision to decamp was based on their genuine interest to see the state progress, lauding Governor Oyetola for exemplifying progressive governance.

According to him, the present administration under the leadership of Governor Oyetola has performed beyond expectations across every sector of the economy, adding that the best proof of interest in the advancement of the state is to support Oyetola.
