A 35-year old man, one Festus Ekeku, has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 3-year old girl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Okoson Street in Afromedia, Okokomaiko area of Lagos where they reside.
The suspect reportedly returned from work and lured the 3-year old victim into his apartment, penetrated and injured her private part.
The dastardly act was exposed when the mother of the victim wanted to bath her but the 3-year old did not allow her to touch her private part because of pains and the mother then observed that her private has been tempered with. She asked her what happened and she mentioned Ekeku as being responsible.
The matter was reported to the Gender Section of the Police Command; detectives arrested Ekeku and detained him at the Command.
During interrogation, the police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrates court for defilement.
The prosecutor, Mr. Christopher John, informed the court that it was a case of defilement because the victim was a minor.
Ekeku was remanded in prison custody as the court denied him bail and refused to take his plea.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Peter Nwaka, directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to DPP for advice. The matter was adjourned pending the availability of the report of DPP advice.
It was gathered that the matter will be transferred to the High court for trial over jurisdiction if DPP finds him culpable. He may be handed up to 10 years imprisonment for the offence he allegedly committed.
