A 42-year old Nigerian, Chijioke Obidike has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for allegedly defrauding a foreign lady, Mrs Susan Losokuen to the tune of N6million under the false pretence of supplying her LED materials.
Obidike was charged with conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence and remanded in prison custody after committing the crime at Aguda, Surulere, Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that in 2016, the suspect contacted the victim and promised to supply her LED materials for an undisclosed amount.
The foreign lady then took the suspect to a Fidelity Bank Plc branch where she withdrew N6 million as part of the money in question as part payment for the supply.
It was gathered that after the victim paid the money, the suspect disappeared with the money neither did he supply the materials as promised nor contacted her again.
When the now stranded lady discovered that she had been scammed, the matter was reported to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni who immediately deployed the officers of Anti-Robbery Squad to track the suspect.
It was learnt that it took the SARS operatives several months before they were able to track and arrested Obidike.
By then, he had spent the whole money.
He was charged before Ikeja Magistrates’ court with the alleged offence and he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka granted Obidike bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
However, Obidike was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was further adjourned till 6 May 2017.
