A 28-year old man, Adam Yusuff, has been arrested and charged for allegedly throwing three communities into darkness by stealing transformer cables worth N.8m, which supplied electricity to the area in Osun State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 2nd June, 2024, at about 10:30pm at Major Adewusi house in Oke-Iresi Area, Ede town, Osun State.
The communities affected included Olorunsogo Community, lludun community and Saka Salami Estate community respectively and the cables were properties of IBEDC ably represented by one Foluso Adejumo.
The suspect was arraigned before the Ede Magistrate Court and ordered remanded in Ilesa Correctional facility for alleged offence.
The Osun Police Command charged Adam Yusuf on three counts bordering on theft in the company of others now at large.
The charge read: “That you Adam Yusuff and others at large on the 2nd of June, 2024 at about 2230hrs at Oke-Iresi Area, Ede in the Ede Magisterial District did conspire together to commit felony to wit entering and stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 16 of the criminal code cap 34 vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003″.
“That you did enter into the dwelling place of one Major Adewusi Samuel (Retired) at Oke-Iresi to commit felony therein and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.”
“You did enter into the dwelling place of one Major Adewusi Samuel (Retired) at Oke-Iresi and stole transformer’s armoured cables valued at N800,000:00k meant to service Olorunsogo Community, lludun community and Saka Salami Estate community respectively and being the properties of IBEDC of Nigeria ably represented by one Foluso Adejumo, the Technical supervisor of Ifon, Osun State and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of criminal code cap 34 Vol II Law of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, V.O. Adedokun, granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in the like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses will be verified by the Court.
However, the defendant did not meet the bail conditions and was subsequently remanded in custody at the Correctional facility pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 25th July, 2024, for hearing.
