MAZI EJIMOFOR OPARA
Many like me enjoy the tempestuous ride of sailing against the tide. My experience, so far, in the APC, especially as a South Easterner, is a revelation to so many things, one of which is how vulnerable we become to ideology. I, despite my scientific trainings, have come to believe in “creationism”.
The Bible simply describes this intricately carved earth as a product of “…and God said”. Humans as complex as we also originated from “spoken words”. The APC is one party down here that exemplifies the power in spoken words. How powerful indoctrinations can be and how odd one appears for ever attempting to assert the unpopular.
With spoken words, the APC was created as a monster unleashed by the Hausa/Fulani people to hound down the entire Igbo race. The message spread like bad news. The clergy preached it. Town Unions propagated it. It became an unwritten curriculum in schools. The message was simple, pervasive – APC is anti Igbo – yet untrue. Both the PDP and APGA stroked this ethnic sentiment so much so that it became an acceptable manifesto.
Today, it is gradually dawning on some persons that all these hate was a dummy. It was just a convenient way of giving an innocent dog a bad name because its traducer desires to hang it. Some of these folks who designed the illusory APC monster have become the unpaid promoters of her many goods down here.
As at today, I am still in the APC. I don’t know what tomorrow may present. However, even if I leave the APC in the next breath of life, I will be glad that the political sculptors who “created” a monster from an “Angel of Change” have today found refuge in the NEXT LEVEL of progress that has dawned on us.
I am APC.
I enjoy the pleasure of loneness that is in the tenacity of my will and clarity of purpose.
