Michael Alabi, 40, Arraigned Over Alleged Breach of Peace & Assault In Ikola

A 40-year-old man, Michael Alabi, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly causing breach of peace and assaulting one Fatima Igboche at Ikola, Lagos.

The defendant appeared before the court on a two-count charge filed by the Commissioner of Police. The matter was listed for arraignment and initial hearing.

According to the charge sheet, the incident allegedly occurred on April 27, 2026, at about 4:10pm within the Ikeja Magisterial District.

The prosecution told the court that the alleged offence took place at Ikola Command, Lagos. It was stated that the confrontation involved the defendant and the complainant, Fatima Igboche.

Under Count I, Michael Alabi was accused of conducting himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace with Fatima Igboche. The prosecution said the conduct was capable of disturbing public order in the area.

The offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

In Count II, the defendant was charged with assault. The prosecution alleged that on the same date, time, and place, he did beat Fatima Igboche during the disagreement.

The charge stated that the act was contrary to Section 334(2)(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. The prosecution said investigations into the matter had been concluded.

The charges were read to the defendant in open court. He was informed of the allegations and the sections of the law under which he was charged.

He pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, SP Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations.

 

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.

The case file showed that the matter was being handled by the District Police Office, OGU, under the Directorate of PSU, Lagos State Ministry of Justice.

Legal experts said every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. The court is expected to give further directions on plea, bail, and adjournment date at the next sitting.
