The Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the Ojodu LCDA, Lagos State, supervised a major desilting exercise at Berger Bus Stop today.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the drainage systems and reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
Under the watchful eyes of environmental officers and Local Government representatives, workers undertook the task of clearing accumulated silt and debris from the drainage channels. This operation aims to enhance the efficiency of water flow, particularly as the rainy season approaches, and to prevent the recurrent flooding that has historically plagued the Berger Bus Stop and surrounding areas.
The Supervisor For Environment, Hon Olawale Abdulsalam, highlighted the importance of this exercise.
“Regular maintenance of our drainage systems is crucial for preventing flood-related disasters. Today’s desilting operation is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe and clean environment for all residents,” he stated.
The Ministry of Environment has assured that similar desilting exercises will continue across other flood-prone areas within the state. They have also urged residents to contribute to these efforts by properly disposing of waste and avoiding actions that could block drainage systems.
Today’s exercise at Berger Bus Stop underscores the commitment of the Ministry of Environment and Ojodu LCDA to fostering a cleaner, safer and more resilient community.
