The Nigerian music industry has this year received huge international acclaim, seeing a number of Nigerian artistes sign worldwide deals and feature on a number of transnational tracks.

The MTV Base Roundtable has put together a panel of music industry heavyweights including, radio presenters, journalists, bloggers, social media influencers to discuss just who would be crowned the artiste with the Song of the year in 2016.

On the panel are Senior Associate, Pulse NG, Ayomide Tayo; Publisher Mystreetz Magazine, Sesan Adeniji; OAP 97.3 Classic FM, Buki Sawyerr Izeogu; OAP Beat 99.9 FM, Douglas Jekan; A&R, Entertainment Consultant, Bizzle Osikoya; Artiste Manager & CEO Stargaze Management Company, Asa Asika and MTV Base’ Flagship VJ and OAP of City FM, Cynthia Cvon Okpala.

The songs which will be selected must have been released not earlier than November 2015, and fulfill criterion like, impact in the media, level of buzz and longevity.

The final selection is sure to elicit response and emotion from viewers, music lovers, and even the artistes themselves.

Speaking on how the panelists were chosen, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Viacom International, Alex Okosi said, “There are no better people to be selected to pick the biggest songs of 2016 than the OAPs, A&R executives, story tellers and VJs. They are music’s biggest critics who, everyday, hear and vet these songs.  As usual, our panels always spark conversations and we hope that this show will help lovers and critics of Nigerian music see and improve on the type of music they release and listen to.”

This year MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) entered its eighth year, seeing Nigerian artistes; Wizkid, Yemi Alade, Wande Coal, Patoranking and Tekno walked away with honours.
