S/West Forum Begins Pre-Season For Region’s NPFL Clubs

In an effort to foster unity and help prepare clubs in the South West region playing in the Nigeria Professional Football League, (NPFL) ahead of the 2016/2017 football season, the South West States Football Forum has concluded plans to hold maiden South West State Football Forum Pre-Season Foootball Tournament.

The tournament will Kick-off Tuesday. Onikan Waterfront Stadium is hosting the first round of matches that will see all the clubs in the NPFL such as MFM International FC, Lagos Remo Stars FC, Sagamu, Sunshine Stars FC, Akure and Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Ibadan taking part in the three days pre-season football tournament.

Apart from the clubs playing in the tournament, there will also be a one-day seminar for all football stakeholders in the region. These include players, coaches, referees, adminstrators and supporters, with Dr Bolaji Ojo-oba, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi and Caletus Chukwunjeku, retired FIFA badged referee as Resource Persons.

The seminar will largely be focused on excellent understanding and interpretation of the Laws of the Game and advocacy on genuine and non-violence football followership and supporter-ship.

Each all the participating club is expected to be represented by accredited two club officials, two players, chairman and secretary of supporters clubs.

Co-ordinator of the zone, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, who is also the First Vice President of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, said the forum is determined to develop football across the zone and also foster unity among the clubs in the zone with the fans seeing the game as non-violence.

He disclosed that the seminar will hold on Tuesday at the Indoor Hall of Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos Island from 9:00am – 1:00pm , while the first match of the first day between MFM FC and Remo Stars kicks off at 2:00am. 3SC will take on Sunshine Stars FC in the second match of the day starting from 4:00pm. All matches for Day 1 will hold at Onikan Waterfront Stadium.

The matches for Day 2 and the final day will hold at the Agege Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday.
