Distinguished party faithful
All Stakeholders present
Gentlemen of the press
Ladies and gentlemen
Let me begin by thanking the people of OJODU LCDA for the unflinching support and understanding from the onset of our Administration.
Stakeholder engagement is the process by which the government involves people in decision-making. It is a critical element to the success of the budgetary process. When you have a budget that is subjected to Stakeholder engagement; there is greater accountability for the use of resources. It is also important to build trust when government interacts with its community, which helps in maintaining credibility over time.
It also helps in information gathering which guides the decisions of government by creating two-way information sharing tools. When there is enough information, the government can make the best decisions by ensuring Stakeholders’ opinion and input in matters.
Therefore, with this august meeting, we have commenced the Budget Cycle for 2024 and we need to align ourselves with the people to be sure that their needs are adequately catered for.
In a similar vein, we want to obtain inputs, contributions, and suggestions from stakeholders on the 2024 Budget process to promote citizens participation in the budget preparation.
Nevertheless, we will continue to drive towards achieving our set target. Also, we are paying a lot of attention to Youth Development, Technology, and Infrastructure (Food-Bank palliative, Health mission amongst others) to build up economic activity and to get hope back to our people; particularly to placate the harsh effects fuel subsidy removal.
Over time, the need to prioritize inclusive governance for proper decision-making is important.
This meeting affords an avenue to update stakeholders on the Half-Year Performance of the Budget, and the resources available for the Fiscal Budget taking into cognizance all Macro-Economic Variables such as the price of oil, inflation, interest rate, and all other health hazards on the economy.
Most importantly, this forum provides us with the opportunity to share ideas geared towards a “BETTER OJODU” and to ensure that desired interests are captured in the Budget as resource availability permits.
Lagos State is working towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) known as the Global Goals which were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty and this administration is working towards achieving this through our Agenda, tagged: HEYS. Therefore, while this gathering is meant for deliberations on the development of our dear LCDA, I implore you to be vocal concerning your needs and priorities as we prepare the Year 2024 fiscal plan.
Once again you are welcome to Ojodu.
