Ofumba Ji FC has defeated 11 Students FC by two goals to one to win the 2021 Awgbu December Football League Competition.

In a fierce and entertaining match played at the St. Micheal’s field, Awgbu, on 1st January, 2022, Ofumba Ji FC, which was not among the favorites to win the competition, defeated the title favorite 11 Students FC despite playing half of the match with 10 men.

11 Students FC had opened the scoring in the first half through Ebuka Okoye also known as little Messi. Ofumba Ji equalised shortly through D General. Just before the half time whistle, Ofumba Ji FC had a man sent off for a second bookable offense. Ofumba Ji FC managed to weather all the attacking threats from 11 Students and deep into the stoppage time mounted a counter attack that resulted to a goal by their captain, Ifeanyi Okoyeocha, sending their fans haywire.

Speaking after the match, Okechukwu Obi, the Coach of Ofumba Ji FC, dedicated his victory to God and his Sponsor.

“I am dedicating this victory to God Almighty, who made it possible, then to the owner of the club, Williams Egolu, who gave me the opportunity and also to my coaching crew, players and fans for their commitments” the coach said.

Speaking also, Dubem Obi, the owner of 11 Student FC, stated that: “In the game of football, you either win or lose. We played brilliantly but were unlucky. We have taken our lessons and next year we will go a step better and lift the trophy”.

The Chairman of the 2021 Awgbu December Football League Organisation Committee, Obi Chukwuemeka, popularly known as Obi Trice Emeka, appreciated his sponsors; Alexander Obiekwe of AU Zanders, who sponsored the first position with N700,000, Mr. Sunday Ezeani Okanumee of Maurice Capital, who sponsored the second position with N500,000 and Prince Nnamma Ezeayom of EJC Solar, who sponsored the third position with N300,000. Not also forgetting other sponsors such as Jonas Ifinta, Nnabuike Onuzuluike and Engr. Agodi Egwuonwu.

“I am deeply grateful to all my sponsors, the Orumba North referee association and the various clubs that participated in the competition. We will definitely improve on our performance next year and offer a much more entertaining tournament” he said.
