In a bold move aimed at restoring calm and fostering mutual understanding, the Orashi National Congress, ONC, in collaboration with the Sustainable Development and Peace Initiative of Indigenous Contractors, has called for a tripartite peace dialogue involving host communities, Ingentia Energies Limited, and community stakeholders.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the call comes in the wake of recent peaceful demonstrations by youth in the host communities, which the ONC has praised for being non-violent and civil. The Congress hailed the youth for their maturity, discipline, and sense of responsibility in expressing their concerns, noting that such peaceful approaches are key to attracting positive responses and long-term resolutions.
In a statement released by the President General of ONC, Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe (JP AP), the organization emphasized the urgent need for dialogue and mutual respect, stressing that confrontation will only delay development and deepen mistrust.
“We believe this is the time to sit together as brothers and partners to resolve lingering issues. Our people want development, and the investors want peace to operate. The best way forward is dialogue,” the statement read.
Amb. Ibe reiterated the ONC’s commitment to peace building, economic inclusion, and sustainable partnerships between host communities and corporate entities operating within the Orashi region and its environs, particularly Abua, which he noted must not be left behind in the region’s development journey.
“Creating an investment-friendly environment across the Orashi region — and Abua is no exception — is central to our agenda. We call on our youth to remain calm and united as the leadership works toward an inclusive platform for negotiation and resolution,” Amb. Ibe urged.
The ONC further stated that the proposed tripartite dialogue is to be held as soon as possible, and will focus on key areas including community development obligations, job creation for locals, corporate social responsibility, and conflict resolution mechanisms that promote long-term peace and prosperity.
The Congress assured all stakeholders that it remains committed to defending the interests of the people, while also ensuring that businesses and government initiatives are not frustrated by recurring conflicts.
“We call for calm, wisdom, and unity. The Orashi region must be known for peace and productivity. Let us not destroy what we seek to build,” the ONC President General concluded.
The appeal has already begun to generate positive feedbacks from various local leaders and youth groups, raising hopes for a new chapter of dialogue-driven progress in the oil-rich region.
