In a bold push for sustainable development and regional transformation, the Southern Youth Foundation of Nigeria and the Orashi National Congress (ONC), under the leadership of Honorable Ambassador Comrade Emeni Ibe (JP, AP), held a strategic consultative meeting with stakeholders from Ogbele and Obumeze communities on Saturday, 7th June, 2025.
The meeting, which focused on attracting developmental intervention projects from both government and private sectors, emphasized the need to create a conducive environment for investment, particularly in the oil- and gas-rich areas of the Orashi region.
Amb. Emeni Ibe, in his persuasive address, thanked community leaders, youth representatives, and traditional institutions for honoring the invitation. He underscored the urgent need for communities to welcome genuine investment opportunities, especially as more companies are expressing interest in operating in the area.
“Our land is rich with oil and gas resources, and it is attracting serious attention from investors,” he said. “This is a golden opportunity to position Ogbele, Obumeze, and other parts of Orashi for real growth. Companies like Aradel Holdings Plc have already opened the doors, and it’s time we walk through them — united, prepared, and welcoming.”
Amb. Emeni called on both the Federal and State Governments to cite major infrastructural development projects in the region, including potable water systems, accessible road networks, and the establishment of secondary and tertiary educational institutions.
He further emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence as a fundamental requirement for development, saying, “Peace is development. Without peace, there can be no progress. Let us ensure that companies coming into our land find a friendly environment and soft landing, especially when it comes to matters like land acquisition.”
A key point of the engagement was the advocacy for communities to allow multinational companies to acquire land legitimately and transparently. Amb. Emeni noted that such land acquisitions, when well-coordinated, will lead to job creation, improved infrastructure, social services, and long-term community development.
“When companies acquire land and settle properly, they build schools, hospitals, roads, and create thousands of jobs. This is the kind of future we must embrace for our children and future generations,” he added.
In a strong show of unity and progressive spirit, both Ogbele and Obumeze men and women welcomed the proposal for more investment in their communities. Stakeholders acknowledged that consultations are ongoing and reaffirmed their commitment to creating a business-friendly environment.
The meeting ended with renewed hope and a clear message of unity, cooperation, and readiness for development. The success of this initiative is expected to serve as a blueprint for other communities within the Orashi region and across the Niger Delta.
