Blood is circulating through our body  system in tubes (blood vessels) called arteries and veins. Usually, these blood vessels work fine, and there is no problem.  That is important because blood carries  oxygen and nutrients to the cells in our system for their proper functioning. Without oxygenated blood, the cells would die.
In the series of total wellness with Dr. Onyemaechi Roberts Uzu, the MD/CEO of Ruzu Herbal Products and Services Ltd., he will be enlightening the public about various health challenges and proffered solutions to prevent and manage illnesses.
In module two of today’s tips, Dr. Uzu highlighted natural remedies to prevent , treat, and rehabilitate stroke patients, saying,
A stroke can happen if something prevents the blood from flowing as it should. A person might have a clogged blood vessel (ischimic stroke)  so the blood cannot get through to the brain cells or blood vessel may burst (hemorrhagic stroke) and part of the brain is suddenly flooded with blood.
Either way, with stroke, brain cells die because they don’t get the oxygenated blood they need.
A stroke usually happens suddenly a person attacked by stroke has several of these sihns: Numbness or paralysis on one side of the body,  a very severed headache, dizziness, loss of memory,  trouble swallowing, blood pressure drop, loss of balance or coordination and trouble talking or understanding.

Statistically, about 87% of stroke are ischimic, and this brain blockage is caused by fatty substances (plague) or a blood clot.  This blockage can happen locally in the brain  (thrombosis) or travels from somewhere else in the body system.
A diet high in processed foods, sodium, sugar, and fat can lead to inflammation and plaque build-up in the walls of the arteries and veins and, in  extention, damage the blood vessels

In other words, excess intake of fried egg, fried meat, fried chicken, fried dodo or plantain, canned  foods, alcohol, soft drinks, fried yam, ice cream, caffeine, and suya can lead to plaque accumulation in the arteries narrowing them and restricting blood flow.

The presence of a high level of sodium in junk foods increases blood pressure and puts stress on blood vessels.  As if these are not enough, they are the major causes of fatigue and decreased energy levels, difficulty sleeping (insomnia),  tooth decay, obesity, issues with digestion, immunity, and heart diseases

Latest studies show that in 2020, stroke deaths in Nigeria reached 57,744, representing 3.90% of total deaths. The age-adjusted dealth rate for stroke was 88.68 per 100,000 population, ranking Nigeria #86 globally in the statistics. Cited from (“World Life Expectancy”)

In 2021, according to the World Health Organisation, stroke ranked #6 (36.4 per 100,000) as a major cause of death in  male and #7 (33.1 per 100,000) in females in Nigeria.

These statistics are an indication that stroke is a growing health concern in Nigeria, driven by health risk factors like hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.

Stroke can easily be prevented drastically by changing one’s lifestyle.  Quit smoking, reduce to the bearest minimum of alcoholic intake, caffeine,  canned foods, sugar, processed foods, and other foods high in sodium and cholesterol.

Take herbs that can clean up your blood vessels such as colocythis citrus (Native Mellon, Bitter Apple, Bara, Egusi Bara), piper guineese (Bush Pepper, West African Black Pepper, Iyere, Uziza), Xylopia aethiopica (Uda, Eru, Chimba, African Pepper, Guinea pepper, Ethiopia Pepper).

Mistletoe is scientifically proven to be very effective in improving the functionality of the arteries and veins. It supports the management of high blood pressure, insomnia  nerves issues and activities of the brain cells.

Another medicinal leaf that could be helpful in managing stroke and high blood pressure is Fiscus exasperata (Ewe Epin, Ekwukwo- Anwerenwa, Sand Paper Leaf).

There are proven herbal products that are carefully formulated for the treatment of stroke and high blood pressure.  Ruzu Herbal Bitters can detoxify the system, clean up blood vessels, and improve blood circulation.  Other herbal products like Ruzu Herbal Balm, Ruzu Strok Tea, and Ruzu Immuno Active are very effective in the treatment and  prevention of stroke.
