The relationship between Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and the people of Aba has continued to attract attention across Abia State. Beyond politics and campaign promises, many residents believe that the growing support enjoyed by the governor is rooted in visible development, renewed public confidence, and deliberate efforts to restore Aba to its place as a leading commercial and entrepreneurial city.
For years, Aba, popularly known as Enyimba City, struggled with infrastructure collapse, environmental degradation, insecurity, flooding, poor road networks, and urban decay. A city long celebrated for commerce, indigenous manufacturing, innovation, and entrepreneurship gradually suffered setbacks that weakened its enormous economic potential.
During his campaigns for the governorship, Governor Otti repeatedly projected a clear vision of rebuilding Aba and returning the commercial city to its glorious days. He presented a development agenda anchored on infrastructure renewal, economic expansion, environmental restoration, and strategic investments designed to unlock Aba’s vast entrepreneurial capacity.
Traders, artisans, transport operators, manufacturers, business owners, market women, and residents across communities bought into the promise of rebuilding Aba and restoring its lost economic strength. That confidence contributed significantly to the support that brought Governor Otti into office.
Three years into the administration, many residents believe that vision is steadily becoming reality.
Road infrastructure renewal has emerged as one of the strongest indicators of the ongoing transformation. Roads that were once inaccessible have been reconstructed, while major transport corridors are being expanded to improve movement within the commercial city.
The recent commissioning of completed road projects and the flag-off of the first phase of the Aba Ring Road further reinforced the administration’s commitment to urban renewal and economic development.
The projects commissioned include Aro Amano Eke Aro Road, Adaelu Road Osisioma Aba, Geometric Road Osisioma, Afule Road Osisioma, Assemblies of God Church Road Osisioma, Kingdom Hall Street, Nwogu Ajagba Street, Nwala Street, Sacred Heart Street, Elizabeth Avenue, Nigerian Brewery Ring Road, Etche Road, Mosque Road, and Crystal Park Road.
The Aba Ring Road project is expected to provide alternative traffic routes, reduce congestion within the metropolis, and strengthen connectivity with neighbouring communities and states.
Governor Otti has consistently maintained that infrastructure development remains central to his administration’s broader objective of stimulating economic growth and improving productivity within Aba.
The establishment of the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) has also strengthened public confidence in the administration’s long term commitment to the city. Established by law under the present administration, the agency has continued to complement government efforts towards urban planning, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth.
Together, the administration and the Greater Aba Development Authority have increasingly demonstrated in practical terms that Aba remains central to the economic future of Abia State and the wider South East region.
Out of the 414 roads so far constructed by the administration within three years, Aba has received a significant share of infrastructure investments as the government continues efforts to fully recover a city that was once associated with infrastructure deterioration, environmental challenges, insecurity, and years of neglect.
Beyond roads and physical infrastructure, many residents point to renewed commercial activities, improved business confidence, and growing optimism about the future as evidence that Aba is gradually returning to the path of economic growth and entrepreneurial advancement.
Public response during Tuesday’s project commissioning activities further reflected the governor’s growing popularity within the city.
As Governor Otti moved across different locations commissioning completed projects and flagging-off new ones, residents turned out in large numbers to receive him. Excitement, appreciation, gifts, and enthusiastic receptions followed the governor from one location to another as residents openly acknowledged ongoing development efforts.
For many observers, what played out across Aba during the commissioning exercise provided further evidence of the strong connection Governor Otti has built with residents of the commercial city.
The governor spent hours moving across locations commissioning projects and unveiling new infrastructure initiatives, while residents trooped out in large numbers to welcome him and express appreciation for what many described as visible development and renewed governance.
Political goodwill is often sustained by performance and public trust. Across Aba, many residents increasingly believe that governance is translating into practical improvements that directly affect their daily lives.
That growing confidence appears to explain why Governor Alex Otti continues to enjoy considerable support across Enyimba City.
For many residents, the ongoing transformation represents more than infrastructure development.
It represents hope, progress and prosperity.
The hope that Aba can fully reclaim its place as a major commercial and entrepreneurial destination not only in Abia State but across the South East and Nigeria at large.
For many residents, Governor Alex Otti has increasingly become identified with that journey of restoration, renewal, and economic rebirth.
