The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has intensified enforcement activities against the illegal sale and open grazing of livestock in unauthorized areas across the state.
This follows the continuous public sensitization jingles jointly circulated by OYRLEA and the Association of livestock dealers and breaders, warning residents and livestock traders against selling sheep, rams, and goats at unapproved locations. The jingles also advised traders and livestock owners to obtain the list of authorized trading points from the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development.
In continuation of the enforcement exercise, officers of the Authority on Friday stormed the Liberty area and Elekuro High School axis along Akanran Road, Ibadan, where enforcement actions were carried out against individuals who failed to comply with the directive and continued trading livestock in unauthorized places.
The enforcement team also intercepted some livestock openly grazing around the Sawmill Onipepeye area while returning from the operation. The act was found to be in violation of the Oyo State Anti-Open Rearing and Grazing Law.
At the end of the exercise, a total of seven (7) rams and one (1) goat were impounded by the Authority.
OYRLEA therefore, reiterated its commitment to enforcing the laws guiding environmental sanitation, public order, and livestock management across Oyo State, while urging residents and livestock owners to strictly comply with government regulations to avoid sanctions.
