About the work:

The rate at which Nigerians perish in road crashes is to say the least alarming.

Almost every day, the media is awash with stories of road accidents that cost the lives of Nigerians and inflict temporary or permanent injuries on some others.

According to figures by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), 10,050 people die yearly in road accidents.

Statistically, this means there are 27 deaths on our roads daily and this excludes hundreds of victims who suffer various degrees of injuries and permanent disabilities from such road carnages.

In most cases, we blame our government for bad roads in the country and forgetting that we as drivers or road users have a role to play by being careful while driving, knowing that we could enter a sudden pot hole or abandoned vehicle on the corner of the road. This also left me with the question: whose job it is to maintain and remove station vehicle on our roads?

In this my work, is a truck driving out of Lagos at 8pm without head light and rear light, no doubt, all our law enforcement agency could not see the looming disaster as it drives passes the ever busy Alapere Ketu axis from Apapa port and heading towards Ibadan.

We have many uniform people on our road ranging from FRSC, Police, LASTMA etc and yet, this truck was not stopped.

Let’s all do the right thing and make Nigeria a better place.
