Barely one week after an Igbo High Chief, Innocent Akachukwu Obiechefu, was released from prison over his inability to pay hotel bills for two ladies and attacking the hotel management, the police have arrested him again in Lagos for allegedly stealing a Lexus Car worth N3.7m from a dealer.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that after the Ebenato – Anambra born Chief Obiechefu was released from Kirikiri prison; he went to a car dealer at Jakande Estate in Lagos, pretended as if he had wanted to buy a car, negotiated and they agreed on a price.
However, he told the dealer that before he would effect payment, he will first test run the car and the dealer obliged him. The dealer then asked two of his staff to join him in the car for test running as he had wished.
It was gathered that Echefu, as he is popular called, drove the Lexus car to Oshodi/Mile 2 Expressway. When he got to Iyana Itire, he threatened the two staff and ordered them of out of the car. As soon as they came down from the car, he drove off and went into hiding for several days.
The alleged theft was reported to the police at Ejigbo Division and the service of a vehicle tracker was engaged and the car was traced to where it was parked in his house. The police mobilised, went to his house in evening to retrieve the car but he resisted and attacked the officers before the DPO then mobilized more officers to retrieve the vehicle. He was then arrested and detained him at the police station.

P.M.EXPRESS scooped that when the police interrogated him, Obiechefu admitted that he liked the car and wanted to use it but had no money to pay for it.
The matter became worse when the police wanted to retrieve the vehicle; he reportedly used an object to damage some parts of the vehicle including the glasses willfully and was unable to explain why he did so.
The police were said to have concluded that it as a case of stealing and willful damage and he may be charged to court for unruly conduct.
When P.M.EXPRESS correspondent visited Ejigbo Police Station, Obiechefu was seen detained at the cell as the police were said to be preparing to charge him to Court. His wife and few relations were also at the police station pleading with the police while explaining that something must be wrong as he was not known for such in the past.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Obiechefu was a known successful business man in Ladipo Market. He was said to have suddenly started selling off his properties worth millions of Naira which he reportedly handed over to a divorcee who eventually duped him in Abuja. The lady in question reportedly hails from his neighbouring town, Utuh, in Anambra State. It was gathered that after the incident, Echefu has not regained himself.

The DPO, CSP Olabisi Okuwobi, was said to have gone to the State Command when our correspondent visited the Ejigbo Police Station for her comments. But a Police source said that he will be charged to Court if the police were not able to resolve the matter at the station.
