The operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad, Idimu Division narrowly escaped death after some Idimu residents accused them of acting like armed robbers and threw stones and bottles at them.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at LIASU close to St. Francis Catholic Church, Idimu, Lagos.

It was gathered that the officers went there to perform their purported lawful duty when the youths in the area confronted them and alleged that they were there to intimidate and extort money from them. The youths threw stones and bottles at them calling them thieves and armed robbers that had come to rob.

P.M.EXPRESS correspondent was unable to establish the allegations against the officers as claimed by some of the aggrieved youths in the area.

However, the officers managed to escape with their patrol vehicle but later mobilised and arrested the youth leaders. It was gathered that no officer sustained any injury but they were thoroughly embarrassed and disgraced in the area.

Three suspects, Olasanoye Kolawole, Badru Olarenwaju and Atoyebi Oluwaseun have been arrested in connection with the public assault on the officers.

They were later charged before an Ejigbo Magistrates court for unlawful assembly, conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and stoning the officers on the patrol.

They pleaded not guilty.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor did not object to their bail but asked the court to give the suspects bail that will enable them to come to court to face trial in the interest of justice.

They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 7 May, 2018.
