Coming quickly on the heels of its series of football development activities, which included the recently held novelty football match to honour and celebrate Ekiti State Governor Dr. John Kayode Fayemi on his 55th birthday, Ekiti state football association is set to roll out programmes for the state’s FA Cup.
Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the FA chairman, Bayo Olanlege, revealed that plans are ongoing to return the glitz and glamour associated with the oldest football championship in Nigeria.
He stated that registration for the 2020 Ekiti FA cup will begin on Monday, 17th February, 2020. According to him, a record turn out of teams from across the 16 local government areas of the state are expected to participate in this year’s competition.
The highly resourceful and unassuming football administrator hinged his confidence on the recent successes of the Ekiti FA football programmes including the epochal Bet9ja Ekiti football league and of course, the much lauded JKF youth football competition.
” We are set to make a stronger statement with this year’s Ekiti FA cup. We won’t relent in our avowed promises to take Ekiti football to greater heights. Football is a very strong and veritable tool for empowerment and emancipation of the hapless youths.
“We therefore call on all teams to visit our office and pick up the registration forms. We promise to deliver the best in terms of organization,” he advised.
Olanlege went on to admonish well placed individuals and corporate organizations in and outside Ekiti state to join hands with the FA to help take the game in the state to its desired heights
