The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has received commendation from residents for his administration’s proactive measures in preventing flooding across major parts of the local government during the ongoing rainy season.

In a voice message sent, an appreciative resident praised the timely desilting and clearing of drainage channels carried out by the Ikeja Local Government, noting that the intervention had yielded visible results.

According to the resident, areas that were previously notorious for severe flooding, particularly the underbridge axis and the General Hospital junction, remained largely accessible despite the heavy rainfall experienced recently.

The resident stated that unlike previous years when floodwaters lingered for days and submerged vehicles, the recent rainfall only resulted in temporary surface water that drained off quickly, a clear indication that the drainage channels had been properly cleared.

“For the first time in years, there was no flooding under the bridge. If it had flooded like before, many cars would have been submerged. The water drained away quickly, showing that the gutters were properly cleared. Even around the General Hospital junction, movement was seamless,” the resident remarked.

The resident further commended the Council Chairman, Comrade Dauda for fulfilling his promise of responsive governance, describing him as a leader who listens to the people and delivers practical solutions to their concerns.

While appreciating the Chairman’s efforts, the resident also reaffirmed that the people of Ikeja would continue to hold the administration accountable while supporting every genuine effort aimed at improving the quality of life of residents.

This commendation reflects the positive impact of the environmental sanitation and drainage maintenance initiatives embarked upon by the AKOD administration under the I.K.E.J.A Agenda, which prioritises environmental sustainability, public safety and improved living conditions for all residents.
