The residents of Ago Palace Way, Okota area of Lagos, have debunked claims of insecurity in the area and described such assertions as the handiwork of mischief makers to achieve their selfish interests in the State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that this is coming following recent publications on social media that there was increase in the rate of kidnapping in the area. Contrarily, the residents stated that the whole Ago Palace Way has been peaceful and there was no threat of insecurity in the area.
Findings revealed that business activities were going on normally as most of bar joints, lounges, hotels and eateries including supermarkets were still booming with customers trooping into the places for various business transactions.
One of the residents, Godwin Eke, told our reporter that Ago Palace Way was peaceful and wondered what those who are spreading the false information of incidents of kidnapping in the area wanted to achieve. He further stated that, though there was incident of kidnapping, the police have since moved into action and restored peace in the area
“You are now on Ago Palace Way. You came in the evening and went to most of the popular joints in the area. Did you notice any sense of insecurity in the area?” Eke asked the reporter.
He explained that the cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary were in the past. But since the new DPO and some officers were brought in, everywhere became calm because of their security architecture and there had been peace and order in Ago Palace Way.
Another resident, Mrs. Linda Osuji, explained that Ago Palace Way has been peaceful and the presence of the Police almost in all the strategist points in the area have made it difficult for criminals to operate.
She explained that criminals wanted to cause terror in the area, the Police have since chased them away. She also revealed that the residents were also cooperating with the police to fight crime in the area
Mrs. Osuji stated that if there is insecurity in the area, the Landlords Association would have raised alarm but that they are cooperating with the Police in the area, who understand Police-Public Relations partnership policy.
“Police in the area are very close to the people in Ago Palace Way; their phone numbers are available. You can easily reach them and they promptly respond” she stated.
Gabriel Osieme, another resident, also spoke in the same vein and stated that there is Police presence in Ago Palace Way and that has made things difficult for criminals in the area.
He gave an instance of one who died inside a vehicle, suspected to be heart attack in the area. It did not take much time for the Police to discover that and promptly acted by removing the corpse and the vehicle. He explained that if the Police were not on ground and working, it may take a longer time to discover the incident and they would not have acted promptly.
Some of other residents, who spoke to P.M.EXPRESS, confirmed that there is relative peace in Ago Palace Way, and where there is instance of crime in the area, the Police usually live up to expectations and acted promptly.
