CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
It appears that criminals no longer regard places of worship as sacred centres when one considers what happened recently in one of the popular churches in Nigeria.
Members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Omole Bus Stop, Ogba, Lagos, were eager to resume normal service after the Covid-19 lockdown but they were shocked to meet an empty church with their properties gone.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that robbers burgled the Church; carted away properties worth millions of Naira and escaped with the loot.
Some of the properties stolen included four plasma television sets, musical equipment including amplifiers, keyboards and other accessories.
The matter was reported to the Police at Area G Command, who moved into action and arrested two of the suspects namely Ilesanmi Bankole, 32 and Uche Emmanuel, 29 while other accomplices were said to be at large.
The suspects were subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for conspiracy and stealing and they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Emmanuel Ajayi, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.A. Adetunji, granted them bail and ordered them remanded in Correctional Centre pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
The matter, which had suffered several adjournments due to Covid-19 lockdown, was later adjourned till 21st October, 2020.
